hehe, cool, just don't go quitting on us, Grin! ;)

I might try it at some point, if I have time and they ever put in the cut cities (without trying to charge for them ;))... from what I've read, it sounds like WAR has lost a lot of its initial subscribers but is holding down a nice enough base of players to last* (unlike AoC, which will probably be dead by Xmas). :)

Trollslayers do attract me quite somewhat, I have to confess... :D

* c.1.2 million copies sold, currently around 300k subscribers

hmm, actually it looks like Mythic might be struggling: server closures and apparently also customer support lay-offs... hope WAR can take it and survives! :)

Nope, I will dual game. :P

Slayers are cool:)

Yupp, there is a server close down. But that is in away a good thing since the population on the remaining servers goes up (even though the reason for the close down is a bit sad).

I have read the same about the number of sold copies and current number of subscribers.

If you like open RVR (world PVP) this is a game for you. Its a good game, but there are still things to work on. I haven't reached end game so I have no clue about that.

Yeah, server merges are good for the player base, it's just worrying regarding the ultimate profitability of the game. Presumably they made as many servers as they expected to need and presumably they budgeted as if they would get enough players to fill a good proportion of those servers. So you do worry about what server closures mean for Mythic's bottom line, especially as they themselves said pre-release that server closures would be a bad sign regarding the game's health. I've read some people suggest that they only created so many servers because lots of people asked for them in beta but then never bought the game, but that doesn't add up at all when you look at the copies sold to current subscriptions ratio: it is apparent from that that they had enough servers to hold the population of initial copies sold, then had to cut back when people quit.

However, there's not anything anyone can do about it (other than buying the game of course!): either the game lives or dies, that's all there is to it, and we won't know until something happens. And I do want the game to succeed, as I'd like to play it one day (come on Skaven!) and WoW needs competition to keep Blizzard sharp. I just find the whole thing intriguing. :)

What classes are you playing by the way Grin? And how is the population balance? I know Destruction was overly dominant on most servers at launch, but I would guess that's evened out more by now?

I've had a quick go with the 10 day trial that's out at the moment.

The atmosphere, the look of the races and the visuals in general are all instantly great. The writing seems fantastic, particularly for the greenskins :D I've only played to level 2 on a bunch of different classes (I wanted to see many of the starting areas), but gameplay wise, it seems very much like WoW. I encountered a few occasional annoyances, like having to rotate the camera to loot whatever I kill most of the time, otherwise my own character is in the way.

The trial isn't permitted to roll on the rp server, but I was encouraged to not see anyone called Omgpwnusohrad on either of the servers I used. I guess this may be due to the name generator, which comes up with pretty good, race appropriate names.

All in all, from my whistle-stop game prodding, it looks very decent. I can't see myself getting the full version though, as I'm not really interested in pvp and I don't have time for Wow x2 anyway :)

is your RvR rank good too then? I got the impression it was more important than your level in WAR...

A high rvr rank gives you opportunity to by better gear. Got a descant rvr rank for just dinged 40. I have 36 in RR.
